EtherCAT controllers can be connected over a long distance. This enables short cabling to the motor, even across the entire factory premises. The EtherCAT protocol has true deterministic control of its Ethernet packets.
For most EtherCAT systems, commissioning is not user-friendly and has a steep learning curve. Galil has significantly simplified this setup process. This allows a system to be integrated quickly and easily. The use of Galil's EtherCAT masters (DMC-500x0 and DMC-52xx0) and controllers is as simple as that of the already familiar digital motion controllers. The EDD-3701x is configured using the GDK software. Simply connect the PC to the EDD-3701x via a USB port. The GDK then provides a configuration tool right up to the first movement of the motor. The EDD-3701x series has the ability to control brushed and brushless motors as well as stepper motors and voice coils. In addition to the servo controller function, 8 digital inputs, 4 digital outputs, 2 analog inputs and 2 analog outputs are available. All input and output information can be accessed by the EtherCAT master.
